The Wear supports a wide range of species with Dace and Chub dominating, there are Roach, Barbel and Grayling present. Depths vary from four to eight feet. Sections to be used are one at Chester-le-street and one in Durham. Best tactics are the float with the Waggler and Stick being the most popular although the whip and pole will produce. Maggot and caster are the main baits, the Chub will fall to a bigger bait such as bread and meat.
